Our Family Christmas Tradition

Today I checked my email to find an invitation to our family tradition, since I have been married over 13 years ago:

Hello Everyone!!!!

Christmas Wishes to all!!

We will have a Christmas dinner at 1:00 ish on Christmas day and ................  would think maybe Gift exchange at Mom's like last year????   We could do it here but Mom seemed to enjoy the crowd and she could always lay down if it was too much....

So you are all welcome here any time Christmas day!!

May God bless you all
love!!

Thank you, my dear sister-in-law!!!
We really appreciate your leadership in bringing family together and for your kind invites.  We really do.
Unfortunately, I often fail to show up because of my irresponsibility or lack of emotional stability, or whatever is wrong with me.  Also, I don't seem to able to tolerate not being able to relate to others.  I enjoy a good conversation, but I either dominate conversation, or I don't seem to be able to relate to others.
I love every one of our family members and I care about them deeply, but please forgive me (and my husband) if we end up not showing up.
Please be assured of our continued prayers for everyone.  We have always felt the same as what we expressed at our wedding:  we want everyone to become saints.  What could be more important than that?
Love,
Schola

Open-mindedness? What governs that?

During my college years many many years ago, it was trendy to be open-minded.

I believe most of us would like to think that we are open-minded.

What does that mean?
What are some of the characters that an open-minded person display?

Just made me think about this when I received a couple of very negative responses from my own family members who are supposed to be very highly educated during the recent Presidential Election.

I am beginning to think that perhaps the level of education does not correlate to the degree of open-mindedness.... Hmmm.... that's too bad.  Why spend a lot of money when a person is not even willing to debate opposing views?

Have we lost the art of rhetorics, debate.... communications?  Don't are schools stop teaching persuasive writings/speeches any more?  What is the point of education then?
