In the mid-morning, I received an interesting call regarding my work. Someone calling for Catholic Cemetery didn't want to share his Baptismal name, as it is a customary among many Catholics - and definitely not an offensive question. Furthermore, I received his response the next day, that he'd rather that I don't talk about life issues or faith matters - as if I was imposing my values on him - because such matters are private matters and that he'd rather that he keep them to himself. He'd rather that we focus our conversation on business matters.
I really wanted to stop and tell him:
I really wanted to stop and tell him:
- My business is Catholic Cemetery ministry which in itself is a faith journey. Not to talk about life issues or faith matters is as if to tell me not to talk about Catholic Cemeteries or Christian Burial. We Christians believe in resurrection of our bodies and we look forward to our eternal soul uniting with our resurrected body when the time comes. I was very disturbed and tried my best to offer my inability to help him open his heart to God but in vain. Once again, my vulnerable soul and body dragged along quite blown away for a while. Come Holy Spirit! Kindle our hearts; and open our minds, ears, and eyes to see your beautiful Truth. Amen!
- Life and faith matters are not private matters; quite the contrary: life and faith matters hold public interest. When we see our neighbor's life in danger, it becomes everyone's business. As for faith matters, we breath and live faith. How can we avoid the topic? Besides, Jesus sent his disciples two by two to spread the Gospel to the ends of the earth. We are sent forth to do the same at the end of each mass, if necessary, to use words, while we live the Gospel. Amen! Come Holy Spirit! Guide our thoughts, words, and actions so that through our lives we would radiate Jesus' fragrance. Amen!
