Thank you Dr. Monica Breaux!

In the Child of Bethlehem, God comes to meet us and make us active sharers in the life around us. He offers himself to us, so that we can take him into our arms, lift him and embrace him.... In this Child, God invites us to be messengers of hope. He invites us to become sentinels for all those bowed down by the despair born of encountering so many closed doors. In this child, God makes us agents of his hospitality....
We ask that your crying may shake us from our indifference and open our eyes to those who are suffering. May your tenderness awaken our sensitivity and recognize our call to see you in all those who arrive...in our histories, in our lives.

Dear Scholastica,

Christmas is nigh!

Today’s readings remind us that Jesus, as He comes to be born of the Virgin, is also the Ancient of Days, our Shepherd Whose rule will extend to the ends of the Earth.  This mystery, among the many beautiful mysteries of our Catholic Faith, demonstrates what the Angel said to Mary at the Annunciation “Nothing will be impossible for God.”

First reading: Micah 5:1-4a
Psalm: Psalm 80:2-3, 15-16, 18-19
Second reading: Hebrews 10:5-10
Gospel: Luke 1:39-45

Today’s Gospel reading includes the great Magnificat, Mary’s timeless song of praise for her Creator and our Creator.  May we, like John the Baptist who leapt in Elizabeth’s womb at the sound of Mary’s voice, also rejoice at Mary’s announcement of our Savior!

I pray that your Christmas is filled with faith and family, and with rejoicing and praise for our Savior Who has kept His promise of mercy.

May God richly bless you this Christmas,
